Neolithic and Early Bronze Age of Cis-Baikal: Spatiotemporal Patterns of Cemetery Use

چکیده
Hunter-gatherer archaeology typically focusses on the details of subsistence strategies and material culture and, in case cemeteries, various aspects mortuary practices, beliefs, social differentiation. This paper aims to look rather at patterns change over time space how past hunter-gatherer cemeteries were used from Late Mesolithic Early Bronze Age (~8600–3500 cal BP) Cis-Baikal region Eastern Siberia. The approach is based a Kernel Density Estimate methodology applied 560 radiocarbon dates obtained for individual burials 65 representing 5 distinct traditions. enables number different types analysis be performed scales: (1) It possible examine overall tempo burial events each cemetery or group cemeteries; (2) Within spatial sequence graves can analyzed further; (3) compare cemetery-specific chronologies within microregional regional context; (4) Although tentatively this time, spatiotemporal pattern use whole visualised. shows that one had its own pattern, some very clear their characteristics, which relate role played local group, population. On scale broader such as shifts frequency between microregions traditions are visible. However, existing sampling biases require caution assessment results future fieldwork will help improve insights. other hand, many have been excavated full comprehensive datasets already provide range entirely new important insights into by Middle Holocene hunter-gatherers Cis-Baikal.

Reconstruction of early Neolithic/Bronze Age population diversity in the Shamanka II cemetery at Lake Baikal using mtDNA polymorphism
Mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (mtDNA) polymorphisms were examinedin bone samples of individuals buried inan early Neolithic (c. 5800–4900 BCE) hunter-gatherer cemetery, Shamanka II, located atthe southwestern tip of Lake Baikal, Siberia. The mainobjective was to compare the mtDNA polymorphisms observed at Shamanka II to those previously reportedfrom the Lokomotiv (early Neolithic) and Ust...

This document comprises a Stage 2 resource assessment and draft research agenda for the Neolithic and Bronze Age (Early – Middle) of the East Midlands. It builds upon the assessments for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire presented at a seminar at County Hall, Leicester on 28.1.1999 (Bishop 1999; Chapman 1999, Clay 1999a; Membury 1999; Myers ...
متن کاملSkeletal growth in early and late Neolithic foragers from the Cis-Baikal region of Eastern Siberia.
Skeletal growth is explored between Early Neolithic (EN) (8000 to 6800 BP) and Late Neolithic (LN) (6000 to 5200 BP) foragers from the Cis-Baikal region of Eastern Siberia. Previous studies suggest that increased systemic stress and smaller adult body size characterize the EN compared to LN. On this basis, greater evidence for stunting and wasting is expected in the EN compared to LN. Skeletal ...
متن کاملCanids as persons: Early Neolithic dog and wolf burials, Cis-Baikal, Siberia
Interpretations of dog burials made by ancient foraging groups have tended to be based upon our own relationships with such animals and modern western cosmological and ontological concepts. Osteological studies of early dogs often focus only on issues of taxonomy, and as a result very little is known about these animals’ life histories. Eastern Siberia has produced many Holocene dog burials, bu...
